Analysis of Film trailer titles

When analysing trailer, the tiles have been placed at the beginning, middle and end to allows the audience to follow along with the trailer and get some more information about what is going on. It also hints the audience about what to expect from the film, as it would tease them in make them more intrigued into going to watch the film. So here I will be looking at titles for the beginning, middle and end of trailer, so that I can gain a sense of ideas of how to create my own titles for own horror trailer with these inspirations.

Beginning

Majority of trailers that I have analysed have the green screen which allow the audience to be notified about who the target audience this film is aimed at. Some of the Green screens will include a specific rating for the audience making a immediate restriction on who can watch the particular film. This is rated by the BBFC ( The British board of film classification) which is put on the film rating website as this allows the audience to have access to the website in order to get more information. Having the green screen is an important feature to a trailer as it allows the audience to know that there is a restricted audience who can watch the film, as there age is dependent on the content shown, which then shows that it would be appropriate for a that specified audience. So as we are doing a doing Horror trailer I think that the green screen should be included as it will have a restricted audience due to the content shown.

Production titles

Film trailers also include production titles, so for horror I have screen grabbed some of the production titles including Film district, BH productions, Relative media and Momentum pictures. The film district production title has been shown in red and black suggesting it fits with the theme of horror, so the production title changes the theme for a particular genre as this helps to promote the film further. The Calibri font has been used on the film district production title and is quite spaced out and has been composed at an angle as it sits on a black wall showing dominance and success as a production. The smokey clouds creates more atmosphere for the film trailer so it makes it more mysterious.

The BH productions uses low key lighting on the with a bit lamp lighting which is shown at the corner of the wall with the logo with "production" underneath it. This looks effective as it starts ti look more mysterious with the use of low key lighting helps to create that atmosphere as the film, which helps to promote the film. As having well known productions titles from previous horror film will help to show that they have experienced producing other well known horror films. Momentum pictures is a been composed with a black and grey spotlight which puts the production title in the trailer as it shows that they have been successful in other horror films, as they are company. The font used is are capital letters in bold font, which has occurred in most production titles as it make it more bold and a vivid making it significant in trailers.

Middle

In the of trailer there are some statements are shown which could either be the directors names or film which they have been previously successful. This is an important feature of a trailer as the audience would know who created the film and makes them look more successful by having other film included that have been directed by him. So in our trailer we would add the directors with a film which they have been successful for. Also words which are associate with the emotions of the characters in the trailer as this helps to give the audience an idea about what to expect when watching the film.  Also giving quotes about the film would also help to sell the film as it makes the audience intrigued as it describes what other peoples experiences were like when watching the film. We would add a statement/quote at the center of the frame as this allows the audience to get someone else perspective on the film.

Ending

The trailer will also include the title of the film right at the end and is usually placed at the centre as its the most bold part of the trailer as this will grab the audience's attention on the film as they will know what it is called. For a horror film trailer the titles would usually be associated with danger or something that would scare the audience so colours such as black or red which connote danger and mystery for the audience. All titles are placed at the centre as this where the audience would most likely see at its in there direct sight. There is also a slight shadow on the title which gives that moody of the trailer. so for our trailer we would include colours such as black with some shadows in the background using bold italic font placed at the centre, so it would be eye catching for the audience and would pick up on it. Lastly the release date is shown as this notifies the audience on when the trailer comes out and is usually placed at the center, in white font which stands out from the background making it an important piece of information for the audience to remember. The release date is a convention of a film trailer as it is one of the important information that the audience should know.
