Soundtrack research

We have researched into different soundtracks that we could possibly use for our trailer. We have a non copy-righted music website, where it allowed us to be given different filters where we can choose what to include in our soundtrack, making sure it is suitable for our trailer. So we wanted the soundtrack to be a dark, eerie, mysterious music which will build fear and tension within the audience. We found this website below where links with our filtered options on some of the soundtracks we found.

Bent and broken

The first clip is called "Bent and Broken" where the music starts off quite low pitched and hollow, as this creates a mysterious effect which would start to build tension if we were to include it in our trailer, creating suspension in the audience. However, this non diegetic sound has a robotic element to which can seem quite like a sci-fi trailer meaning that we might give the wrong genre indicator. but we could fade the music out just after the tension building part at the beginning. Also we could crop out some of the length of the music so middle can be included if we took some establishing shots of the forests or if the camera is doing a tracking of the forest as this will create mysterious effect leaving the audience about what it could be revealed.

House of leaves

The next clip is called "House of Leaves" which starts very low pitched but gradually becomes higher as it goes on. The violin creates a screechy high note which builds tension and the piano which is significantly lower plays quite slow adding in the tension and also creating a sense of fear among the audience. This would be good for a paranormal type trailer where the creepy happenings of the ghosts/spirits will go well alongside the music. Also, the added low drum rumbles adds in the effect of thunder which is often the type of weather that is expected in horror trailers. This is because they are expected to be dark so that they conform to the conventions of a horror film.

Awkward meeting

Next, the clip titled "Awkward Meeting" starts off quite slow paced where its predominantly piano which is low pitched. This adds tension to the trailer and will be good to use as the general background sound so that the tension is always there and therefore will engage the audience. As it is slow paced it adds suspension and will therefore mean that the audience are more likely to want to see the film. However, the music gives off a crime/investigation genre which means that we might give off the wrong genre indicator.

Gnarled situation

The next clip is called "Gnarled Situation" where it starts off with small beats of a xylophone and a low pitched background noise. This builds tension as it begins to get louder and faster paced. It sounds quite creepy which would be good to use in the woods where they are exploring what is going on. The sound of organs are introduced half way which gives off tension, further engaging the audience and making them want to know what is going to happen.





Heart of the beast

The final clip is called "Heart Of The Beast" where low growling sounds can be heard with what sounds like crows in the back ground. This is a particularly good soundtrack to use because of the use of the woods in our trailer. We are thinking that this would be good when we introduce the woods or as the girls are exploring further as it adds horror and tension to our trailer which is what we are trying to achieve. As it goes on, the sound increases, further adding more tension and building suspense.
