The audience in which this film is aimed at is for is males aged between 16-30, because the trailer show a lot of action and a huge involvement of fighting, and weaponary being used, which would appeal more to a male audience as they would be more interested in these fight scenes and explosions, e.t.c. this is important to have when watching a trailer has it will specify the audience this film is most suitable for and will restrict others from watching it.
Then we cut to show the production titles along with the non diegetic sound, which is quite corrogated, droned music, which starts to set a dark, mysterious mood for the audience to encounter, as this low pitched music, starts to make the audience curious about what this music as in common with the rest of the trailer. The first production title shown called Tristar, which is part of the Sony entertainment company. Tristar is TV and film production company. By having this it allows the film to be produced by a company who is experienced with how the film could be promoted through advertising it on TV, so they will be experience with what audience to put with this film making sure it adapts to suit the appropriate audience. Then the camera fades out to show the next title, Media right capital is an independent film and television studio, who have dealt with other film productions such as TED 2 and 22 Jump street. Having worked with these well known successful film, will to show the audience a well known company producing the film, knowing the audience's interests.
Then we cut to a tracking shot which shows a birds eye view of the the location, which allows the audience to see where the setting of the film is set, the modern location suggests a it refers to the future, as it shows a more powerful, brighter side and this sis shown through the bright lighting signifying uplifting mood, however the non diegetic sound, which overlaps this shot, makes the audience curious, as it signifies something dark, which could relate to a secret which the audience have to watch in order to find out. Also the camera is quite fast pace suggesting that this adds to the atmosphere has someone is in control of this. Then the camera cuts to a blank screen introducing a title, saying "The year 2154" suggests that it starts to set the scene by making this film in the future. The style of the font is in capitals, in white thin writing, signifies perfection and purity, which may link back to the trailer as it will show that someone may be a leader controlling this showing a everything is being controlled. Then fades to show a long shot a modern building suggesting it could be particular building signifying where most of the most important people who control the future of the population, so prediction what will happen then.
Then we cut to show more titles, which gives the audience an insight to what the film is about, and is important to have titles in a trailer, as this will give the hints on the storyline of the film. Having key words will signify importance of different events which may come up in the film, which can allow the audience to find out more about the film through these hints, which can intrigue them to watch on further find out about the film. The we cut to a mid shot of women walking in wearing a suit, suggesting she is leader,with her posture being straight with her shoulders back, connoting confidence, with the bright lighting suggests her achievement of gaining this wealth and power. She subverts the stereotypes of how women are presents, as she looks more confident, rather than weak, and innocent. It shows the more modern perspective of women as they tend to have more confidences, and this leads to them having power and control over others. Her facial expressions shows a grin of confidence with the mid shot presenting her status shown through her suit so having she has a lot of power, making her look more upper class than everyone, as as everyone is greeting her shows they respect her in what she does.
When man greets saying "Hello Madam" suggests that she she hold a lot of power and giving her respect back, as look like she has achieved a lot for everyone. Then cuts to show a statement saying "live on Elysium" suggesting that the audience will get the first view of what the future may look like and the trailer then shows aspects of which technology as developed further to cure things that in the present have problem dealing with. Then the next few scenes shows the suspense on how well developed technology has become as it shows one way of curing cancer, making everything possible to do. With another black screen introducing more hints relating to the film, suggesting it hints the audience further, as it show "No poverty, No war, no sickness, suggesting that this future is has improved people's lives making it seem as if its perfect. this shows the convention of a action, sci-fi film as predicting certain events in the future, shows the unnatural view of society, and just show a predicted view of what it could look like.
Then we cut to a close of introducing the male protagonist, and by his expression it looks like he is determined to find out who is behind this as this has restricted people's freedom. As he looks directly at the camera suggests that he makes the audience involved in the film, making them feel like they are apart of the experience. Then the non diegetic sound fades out and stops blacks out, this creates suspension for the audience as they don't know what the male protagonist is up to and what his plans are. Then the camera fades out to show another long shot of some other building being destroyed, medium shots of people running seeking for freedom and help, the yellow lighting with sand suggests that these people are hopeless, and don't have power over themselves this shows another side showing a division on the planet affecting people's lifestyles. This shows another side of the trailer which A convention of a action film showing building being destroyed by nuclear weapon. which would interest the audience as a lot more of this will occur in the film and the trailer starts to show hints in order to tease the audience. Then we cut to the camera tracking the male protagonist as he walks down the village and is shown from a point of view shot that with the planes, this allows the audience to get involved with the experience of the film as they start to explore the the more bad side of the division.
Then we cut to to show the director of the film, Neil Blomkamp who was also the director of the well known film District 9, the film District 9 is enlarged out of the rest of the writing as this will make the audience notice it more. Having a well known director allows to show a successful director of other films of a similar genre, having a more experience in what the audience interests are. Its important to have the director name in a trailer, because it shows the audience who created the film and shows other achievements of other films they have created, making them seem more popular, and experienced for there well known films. Then the non diegetic sound fades out, as this build suspense on what may happen next, leaving the audience thinking. Then the camera cuts to show the male protagonist, saying "I need to get to Elysium" suggest that from this it gives more hints on what this film is about talking about a certain place, which shows a lot of significance to the male protagonist as his tone of voice suggests that he is determined, and shows a strong will showing his confidence and personality, as this starts to give audience a bit more information on him and shows a bit about what he wants to do.
Then we are shown the a birds eye view of the of something being made, the darker lighting suggests that it shows a mission of revenge, suggesting seeking freedom and equality, so it suggests making this armed outfit will help gain that through this mission. Its lets the audience in on the more about the film through this preparation as it looks like there will be a fight scene and this will show there way of gaining a sense of equality. This adheres to the convention to a action/sci fi film trailer as fight scenes and the use of weaponary and making plans shows elements of this this as it shows a build up to a fight which the audience will watch. Then the next few scene fade out with quick closeups of the outfit being put together on the male protagonist, this allows to hint the audience on how this preparation and shown through the male protagonist, and these shots take the audience along with them to experience being part of the film, so following the male protagonist through his mission.
Then the camera fades to shows the male protagonist traveling, with the robotic, non-diegetic sound, suggesting that this costume that he is wearing will have a huge impact on his plan, as this will be part of his mission in order to complete his plan. The over the shoulder shot which shows the view of the location with the male protagonist, shows his intention of what he wants to do which will have an impact on the whole world. The trailer will hint small bits of information, teasing the audience about what there plan could be, so it will make them more intrigued into watching the film. Then the dialogue of him addressing what he is going to do, showing his confidence and determination as he will achieve his plans, through the dangers of this it shows how high tech the other side of the world is and shows difficulties in fighting. Then the next few quick scenes which fade in out shows the people that he is up against, with a closeup of a stopwatch, suggesting that time is very limited for the male protagonist to succeed his plan, which shows how difficult and hard his mission is going to be against more stronger people, and this is shown through showing the women in the suit being in control of all of this.
Then the next few scenes shows action taking place as the fight begins, with a long shot of the airships flying around suggesting the fight has taken place and it shows the enemy of which the women takes action as they both prepare and start fighting, this is shown through the car chases, helicopters with guns shooting taking place, this adheres to the convention of a action film, as it shows fats pace camera work and fast pace editing, as this starts to show the fight scene taking place, showing both sides getting into action. This starts to build tension for the audience it starts to hint plots of the film, which will make them intrigued in finding out what happens next. The non diegetic sound continues as it shows the suspense and difficulties the mission has become. Then a blank screen showing the names of the cast, this allows the audience to get familiar with the two main protagonist who go head to head in this battle and may recognize them from other films, shown in capital letters follows the theme of a robotic outlook, and shows the audience the importance of him. Then it fades out keeping the text on screen showing a closeup of the male protagonist, and will let the audience know who to side with and get to know the protagonist more. This is also shown for the women in the suit, as it shows that her role is very powerful and shows the enemy in which the male protagonist is up against, as the women is strong and power and by her expression shows the shock of someone challenging her creation and plans, as she turns suddenly. Having the cast's name at the centre of the screen allow it to be the audiences main focus when watching, by directly familiarizing themselves with the cast.
Then the trailer continues to show more scenes of long shot of explosions, and closeups of the male protagonist in action so in a fight scene, as it continues to tease the audience. the music becomes more intense as it starts to show more problem being caused through this as it destroys certain part of the world. This adheres to the convention of a action sci-fi as it allows the audience to get an insight on the fight scene and how the male protagonist deals with it, building more intense as the battle becomes more harder.
Then the trailer ends with the title of the film, and this is important to have in a trailer as it informs the audience about what the film is called, having it in the center makes it memorable for them, along with font style relating to a mission, including robots links directly to the font, showing a controlling ability the trailer shows, hinting the storyline to the audience. Then finishes with the release date for the film, as it shows another key feature of a trailer as its important to let the audience know when the film coming out, it is enlarged so this piece of information stand out to them first. Then underneath it is the film website, and this allows the audience to find out more information about the film on there, such as more trailers, posters and clips and the latest news about the film. This keeps the audience updated with release of the film.
