Horror trailer 3: Insidious

The trailer begins with the age rating for the film, as this is an important element for a trailer as this informs the audience on the restriction for who can watch the film. The audience in which this film as been rated for advertising for a PG 13, where kids under 13 should have parental guidance when watching the film preview, because of the content shown in the film. The genre for this film trailer is a horror, and the generic expectation would include a childhood past, abandoned, dark locations, sometimes based on a true story, ghost would haunt a family member usually a child, as they are seen as more innocent and so won't know what is going on. All of these elements will all try and scare the audience, in the trailer making them watch the film.
Then the trailer shows a title relating to the film. Film district is an independent American motion picture, who also distribute, produce and finance films. By having a company like this allows to promote and distribute film at the same time, and they can gain more profit from films by doing more than 1 thing for a film. By having the distributing and production company in the trailer allows the audience to know who had created the film. Then the camera fades to show the title of the film, and it immediately tells the audience what the name of the film as it it comes up three/four times in the trailer, having this allows to keep it memorable all throughout the trailer. Having the production/distributing company and the title in a trailer as it allows the audience to know bit of background of who created the film and notifies them of what the film is called, so it can be remembered as it comes up a few time in the trailer. The hollow, dark noise starts to build tension for the audience as something mysterious is going to happen, which will create an unexpected shock for them

Then the camera cuts to a medium shot of a man sat on stair, as he is looks nervous as the man film asks him if he is ready, to for being hypnotized as this will allow him to recap his memory. As the camera shows him at the center, this allows the audience to be apart of what this protagonist is going through, as it looks like has had a shock, The background lighting is very gloomy and mysterious complements the medium shot of the man sitting down as it signifies a dark, hidden story which the man will reveal. This shows a convention of a horror film trailer as the dark lighting suggests a hidden side of the film and creates an atmosphere, knowing that there's something haunting them. Then the camera cuts an instrument, as it starts making a clock noise, as the trailer will show a time change back to the past, showing the audience bit of his past and how he has got to this stage of which he scared for his life. The camera blurs out the background as it focuses on the close up of the instrument, as this allows the audience feel apart of trailer as it hypnotizes them in to being apart, so get an insight to what this man has gone through.
Then the camera cuts to show the directors of the film. James Wan the director of saw and Oren Peli the director of Paranormal activity. Having these well known directors of previous horror film, will allow them to know what there audience interests are, as the title of these film have been enlarged, so that the audience can recognise these other film knowing that these directors have a lot of experience of making other horror films, as they have been successful. Then the camera cuts to show a long/ low angle of the house where the family are being introduced who are being haunted. This makes the house look more scary and controlling, as this shows the ghost inside hold a lot of power over this house uses it as way of seeking revenge.  They have been shown as an ordinary family, happy, and just shows what there daily life is like.the audience can relate as she show a ordinary family lifestyle which the can relate to as they may have experience the as one of the members. This gives the audience an insight into the families life which will be focused on through out the film, so they get a background of who they are and what they are like.

 Then next scene shows a boy fall from a ladder, and then shown through a two shot of the parents sympathizing for him as he is in coma and this allows the audience can feel sorry for them, as it was something they weren't expecting. However the two shot of the parents are blurred as the camera focuses on the long shot of the boy as he hold a lot of importance as it could be more than just a medical problem. This adheres to the convention of a horror film, as the ghost will usually use children to seek revenge as they are innocent and don't know what is going around them. Then the camera fades out to show a close up of the child's mother, who is staring and looks depressed  and the atmosphere being quite gloomy adds to her current situation, as she is worried about her child as she says "they don't know what to call it" suggesting that she is hopeless about what may happen to her child, as its something unknown, suggesting that it could be a ghost controlling this. Then cuts to shows the title of the film as it shows that it reminds the audience about the name of the film, then the text scrambles to say "insidious is.." suggesting that it could be possessing or haunting someone, leaving the audience think about who it could be, so it would make them eager to find out more about it.

Then the next scenes shows the women investigating around the house as she starts to hear noises, as she goes to sees that its a rocking horse, creating suspense as this ghost is controlling certain things in the house leaving clues of its presents. Then cuts to show a long shot of the boy closing the door, this suggests that he is being influence by a ghost as he closes the door, creating tension of what may happen next to him, teasing the audience further as this would make them eager to find out what happens next. Then we cut to high angle shot of a baby monitor, suggesting that the main protagonist is spying in his room and the baby monitor hold a lot of important as this may have solution to what may be happening to the child, so this shot reflects this. Then suddenly a bird view is shown as she flashes her torch, suggesting the dark, gloomy lighting reflects a suspension of who this ghost is and suggesting something is going to scare her making her look innocent and scared. Suddenly a voice started shouting making her and the audience scared as then she runs into the baby room finding a baby crying, and this leaves hints that the ghost is here.

 Then the voice over begins with the mother explaining what she has heard, and the camera starts to following along, so show a point of view shot of the boy in his room, knowing these clues of these noises suggests that it leaves clues from this ghost, as it here to haunt this family, but leave the audience think why it here for this family. Then the trailer becomes more quick, with the fast pace editing as the camera starts to show quick shot suggesting that ghost is here haunting them all, as it seek revenge on them, with the close up of the door handle being tried to be opened, suggesting it shows the suspense and desperation of this ghost trying to hurt this family. Then shows the family being tortured, creating tension on the capabilities of this ghost. This shows a convention of a horror film trailer as it will show a small preview of the family being tortured, showing the power and control this ghost holds, making the audience eager to find out about what happens next. Then we are shown a three shot of the parents and the child on floor with blood stains over the white sheets, suggests that something bad is haunting there child and his family, as this scene look very dull with the boys face suggesting its making him weak and affect his health through this possession of this ghost controlling him. Then someone refers to someone who knows more about this, as the women seek help, to find some peace for her family.




Then the next shot show a man talk about how he is checking lighting in the house and shows close up shots this huge camera which keeps track of what is going on in the house, this shows that this will support the family through recording what happens, The lighting is quite bright suggesting that this could be one way in which could solve the families problem. Then an extreme close up with focusing on her eye suggests it shows  a old women staring suggesting that she knows what may be bothering the family, in terms of spiritually, as this shot suggests she can sense something, then the camera cuts back to more moments where the family are being tortured in the dark, with the minamal lighting as this create suspense for the audience, as they want to know when this will stop, making them more eager to watch the film to find out.
 Then a long shot show a hallway where the lighting is brighter at the other end, suggesting that there is a way of getting rid of this ghost from this family, as the child's mother says she wants to leave the house, so that she can leave in peace with her family, from the tone of her voice suggests she is desperate to leave and seek some protection for her family. Then we are shown a close up of a brief drawing, showing an image of what this ghost looks like, suggesting its something unusual that has not been seen, which starts to creates more tension as it show something evolving from the past which is haunting the family. Then as the camera moves down the hallway the old women starts talking about how it isn't the house which is bothering but its there son, which scares them more knowing that its family member which causing the problem, but doesn't know what to do, as the camera moves slowly it suggests that it takes the audience along with to reveal the secret behind this suggested by the dark lighting showing that there's a hidden story behind why this family is being tortured.
 Then the camera shows some fast paces shots and scenes as they investigate who this ghost is, but as they are trying to investigate they find clues, such as the medium shot of the two women dressed white suggesting innocence as they may be controlled by someone, suggests that this is found footage, then shows more chaos as the family are tortured even more afterwards, leaving hints for the audience on what may happen next. Then the camera cuts to shows the title of the film again, making sure the audience remember the title, as it's unusual to to show it a lot throughout the trailer. This allows the audience to remember the film quite well making it more memorable than other films. Then the trailer shows the release date for the film, saying "everywhere April 1st" suggests that this is been this film will become available to watch, and everywhere for the audience to notice when it comes out suggesting it will be popular.  
Then the trailer blacks out the suddenly shows a women coming quite close to the camera quickly, scareing the audience, making them feel apart of the trailer, as this will make them scared with the fright. Then the trailer ends with the production titles in small, as this allows to show who had created the film, showing acknowledgement for it. Having both the release date and the production titles/credits at the end as part of a trailer as this allows the audience to be notified on when the film is released for them to watch and show recognition for who made the film.
