Film Trailer 6: The conjuring

The trailer begins with showing the production tiles, as the audience see that the film has been produced by the vertically integrated company Warner brothers. Warner brother is an Amercian production company owning other companies such as Warner bro. pictures, Warner bros entertainment, Warner bros television, animation, home line cinema, castle rock entertainment, DC entertainment and own half of the CW television networks. By having a well production company would help promote and advertise the film better, as they will have many different ways in which they can promote the film, and earn some profit as a company themself. Some highly grossed films such as the The dark night(2008) and The hobbit(2012) were some of films produced by Warner brother, so these film have been highly successful, and having this will allow this film to have a company who is experienced in knowing what there target audience interest are. On the bottom of each corner some of the ways in which the film can be promoted, with the #theconjuring so promoting the film online allows to attract a wider range of audiences and having social media as one of the ways in promoting the film, social media has become the most popular way for audiences to interact and spread the word about the film increasing the popularity of the film. On the right hand corner it shows the website in which allows the audience to find out more about the film as most of the information will be on there, for them to find out.

The next frame shows the distributor company New line cinema owned by Warner brothers. Having both these production and distributing company allows to alert the audience on who created the film and promoted the film as the audience will recognise the production company as it very success for other films.

The camera then shows old footage of two well known ghost hunters on the hunt to finding ghost in old houses, and they record everything they say and do. Having this allows them have prove that they have interacted with ghosts. Then we cut to a long shot to a dark room where they try to interact, but nothing happens. By having this it allows the audience to get an overview of who these people are and get some idea of what this film may be about. Then we see a high angle shot of both of them heading back up stairs and they hear a noise and turn around with torch light shining on an area where we hear a women laughing, by having this diegetic sound it shows her strength and power as she just jokes around withe the two ghost hunters.

 We then cut a focused bit of paper introducing the the detectives, the camera blurs everything else in the shot to focus on the text as it allows to show from another persons perspective of who these people are as they have come to talk about what they do and why they do it. Then the camera blurs the text and focus on the couple who have come to ta;k about what they do. As the detective talk about what they do the camera cut to the crowds listening to them. This shows the popularity of people who want to know more what they do for a living and educate them in to knowing more about it. This shows the conventions of a horror film trailer as it will someone or other people on the hunt to find these ghost and will help a family with there problems. The costume in which the two detective are wearing, They wearing more Victorian times clothing, this suggests that for what they do they have been doing this for years and have a lot of experience doing it.
Then the camera cuts to a black screen where is gives information to the audience that this film is based on a true story, this something typically to expect when when watching a horror films as some will based on a true story about something that happened in past. By having this will start to scare the audience that this horror film will be based on something that happened in the past. Having it in the centre allows the audience to grab there attention when watching the trailer and will be something they can remember when watching the film and will keep in mind that the film is based on true story, making it more believable. The non diegetic sound of a guitar playing, shows a calm atmosphere as it starts to recap all the all the past moments the detectives have gone through and taking the audience the through different cases they have gone through and some of the outcomes, which gives the audience an insight of the story and the real life event. Then the camera cuts to the outside where the detective are about to leave when someone introduces this women, who looks scared and look like want some help from the detectives, and looks at them seeking for help. The audience would think that the women is scared and may think that these detectives may help her, with her problems.
 Then we are shown a long shot of the location of the film where it set in a deserted old house, which suits the convention of a horror film as this allows to scene the atmosphere of starting to scare the audience. The mist in the middle ground suggests that the house is full of secretive thing which will be revealed during the film, the lighting which complements this is very dark, connoting a mystery, and is also associated with death, which may suggest that someone will be in danger of being killed by this ghost or someone in the dead will come back to haunt a family who lives in the house.

 We then get a close up  the clock suggesting time limit in which these ghost comes out and watching the time makes the audience more alert and starts to build tension in them as the clock ticking suggests that the time is very shot for the family as something bad will happen since they started living in that house. The lighting remains dark suggesting something unexpected will happen which will scare the audience and the clock seem as if it counts down to something unwanted.
The camera then cuts to more brighter close up of a picture frame introducing the family who the audience will be focusing on, the brighter lighting suggests the joys of a happy family as they have a string connection as a whole, as they are happy shown in photo, this shows a more positive side of the family as it shows where they start before getting haunted on. Alongside it the voice over of the women seeking for help, starts to talk about her family and how something bad is happening in there family, by this it gives the audience an insight of her family situation being put in the detective perspective. Then the next few scenes shows where it shows two children asleep and the the camera cuts back to the same close up of the clock and continues to tick and then suddenly stops showing suspense as it then starts to shows one of the children legs being pulled suggesting the ghost has started haunting them from a certain time at night. It then shows everything in the house being broken, and children screaming, scared. This suggests the presents of the ghost being around at night and adheres to the convention as it shows the ghost scaring the children first as they most innocent and gullible and easily scared when something unexpected happens.
 Then black screen shows introduces a well known director, James Wan who has been successful with other well known horror films such as Saw(2004) and insidious(2011). By having a well known director allows him to know what the audience interests are as he has done many horror film, so will be more experience, as the conjuring was also successful. It also allows the audience to recognise other films directed by him, as they may follow similar pattern, as the directors were the same. The films are outline enlarged than the rest of the text as it connotes the popularity of the films and the audience would recognise them, and by having this will allow them to watch this film due to success of his other horror films.

The camera then cuts to a low angle of the haunted house and surrounded by bright lighting suggesting that a more relieving time of the day where the family isn't under being haunted, but still remain stress about what is going on. By having the low angle shot of house connotes fear and insecurity attached to the house as it increases the height of the buildings suggesting as it hold a lot of past memories which will start to haunt the family. Then we hear the male detetctive recording his voice as he is at the house and the camera fades to introduce the family in person. This allows the audience to be more scared as the expression from the families face suggests that the audience would start to sympathise with the family as they have gone thorough a tough time.

Then the camera pans to shows the children close together, as it shows they are protecting one another, as they have been going through a distressful time and shows how they frighten so they seek each other protection, the voice over the male detective starts to give information about the family and what they have been experiencing this allows the audience to find out more about the family and there distressing experience in this house.

The camera the cuts and starts to pans at 30 degrees and stops until we get an over the shoulder shot of the women with her eyes closed as she tries to sense anything, that would be unnatural and the detective asks if there anything that she can sense, Then the camera fades to an extreme long shot of the outside where the female detective continues to search around the house, having a long distance away as this shows the distance the audience want to be away from the ghost. Then the female detective gives her outcome that a lot as happened in this house and can see things that other people can't see so for example the ghost which appears a someone being hanging from a tree as the man stands in front of him. Then fades to show the ongoing search of what is going in the house showing the detectives at work to find out. The man starts to talk about how the female detective can sense anything close and can start haunted others and can have an immediate affect on her.

Then we get a more scene of the detectives doing more search and the we are shown them trying to track this ghost inside the house, the close up is shown of this control box where the women is increasing the volume in a certain room, by having they will hear clearly what is going on and will be able to identify whats been haunting the house, so they can help stop it, Then the voice over of the female detective continues to talk  about what is going on and this keeps the audience and the family involved with what is going on and having this allows the audience to feel involved in the film and be in the perspective of the family as they have gone through a lot by being haunted which has made them scared as well. Then we cut to an empty bedroom where the ghost will start to haunt in and shows that the detective are taking a specific look at what may happen .

Then we are shown a three shot of the two sister where all of them start to look inside the wardrobe as its very silent but then instead suddenly a women jumps off from the wardrobe, screaming as it scares them, having the three establishes the relationship between all of them as two of the are sisters trying to protect each other and there another women who jumps off to scare them suggesting that she is here for revenge. The family are then determined to leave the house but the detectives stop them, as the ghost will follow with them.

Then the female detective explains how the ghost has got attached with family and will follow them, this scares the family more as they can't control the ghost as it has got more power over them, This is shown through the scratches on the other women's arm as she doesn't realise it. Then cuts to show more events where the ghost starts haunt them, the fast pace editing with the quick cuts allows to tease the audience of giving them part of the film, by doing this will allow them to go and watch the film.

 Shot reverse shot has been used when the detective have found something out but the man doesn't want take the women, because hes scared of losing her through this mission of getting rid of this ghost. It establishes there relationship side as if she goes out there she will get hurt and the man doesn't want that, so tries to stops her. Then the next scene shows the female detective falls down, this shows how risky it is dealing with there case as it can put them at danger of interfering with the ghosts. Then we cut to the detective interviewing one of the girls as she describes what she sees at night, this allows the audience to get an insight from someone who has experience making them seem more scared and shake as it starts to make it more real as this is happened in real life. Then the over the shoulder shot of the women haunted the mother starts to scream as other women starts to come up close to her. Then a long shot of the exorcism taking place as they try and reveal who this person is and what they want, then we get a lot of cut scene of the family being possessed and controlled by the ghost, as it continues to cause problems for the family as they are still scared as this still going on. The non diegetic sound continues to be deep as it shows the the ghost being in action of taking revenge.

Then the camera cuts to show the title of the film which is in white capital letters suggesting that the silver connotes mental power, which is shown as the ghost scares and uses the family to scare each other, along with black background connotes power and authority which the ghost holds as it hold a lot strength over the family, so the title of the film also refers to a true story which the audience will remember as shown earlier in the trailer as this will increase the audiences interest in watching the film.

 Then as the female detective interviews the younger child, she introduces this box, the camera blurs the two people and focus on the spiral inside the box, this suggests that as she stares into it it starts to manipulate them in being in control of the ghost then as the little girl says to turn around and the camera then blurs the box and focus on the close up of the female detective facial expressions as she looks back with fear, suggesting her that something unexpected will happen, then looks back and and front of the books shows an old women scaring her then the it cuts away. This adhere to convention of a horror film trailer as it will hint some of what the ghost will look like and by doing this will scare the audience further making them to chose whether they want to watch the film or not.

 Then to finishes the trailer the release date has been shown in the same font as the title and has been place in the middle, making it memorible and will grab more attention making the audience more alert of the about when the release date is out. This is conventional for any trailer as its important for the audience to know when the film is going to release as it will either make go and watch or not.
