Film trailer 9: Winter's tale

The trailer begins with the film rating screen, and this allows the audience find out that there is a specific audience which this film is aimed at so the trailer will give hints to all types of audience's, as this will give them an insight on to parts of the film. Its important to have the specific audience shown through the green screen as this allows to restrict certain age groups from watching due to the content or what the interests are of different audiences. Then the audience are shown the production titles for the film, as it important that the they know who is produced and promoted the film.  The genre of the film trailer is a romance with a bit of fantasy as well, which will usually show unnatural events occurring, and will be based around to romantic relationship. The audience who would be attracted to watch this type of film would be for women aged 16-25, because as this film trailer shows a lot of the past and and modern times setting, with the film showing different parts of a relationship, the audience may want to follow along with them and see what happens next. The film also shows a mix of fairy tale mixed together to shown a modern alternative, which may attract a more of the 16-25 audience, as they would most likely to know more about them, unlike the younger generation may not be as familiar due to the newer fantasy/CGI films, so having this film will reinforce some of the old fairy tales.
Then a slow mellow horn starts playing as the trailer shows that the film is created by the Warner brothers pictures, which are part of the vertically integrated company Warner brothers. By having a well known company who produced the film as they will know key elements which may attract a certain audience. Warner brothers being a vertically integrated company allows film to be produced and promoted on a more global scale, which allows to attract a wider audience, with familiar and well known production company.
Then this next frame shows another company called the village roadshow pictures, who are co-produce and co-financed big Hollywood motion pictures, who work closely with Warner brothers. With other links with films such as the The great gatsbsy. By having this allows them to be very well known for one of the well known movies, so having this allows them be familiar with what the audience are like for romance films. Both of these production titles are in Gold, which represents a theme, which signifies a past so having reinforcing old fairy tale stories, it shows some traditional events that may occur in the film, which the audience my be familiar with.
Then the camera shows a long shot of the setting showing the audience where the film is being set, and the building in white suggests, purity and calmness, suggesting the atmosphere of the film. With the black carriage and horses with then traveling, reflects a history, of how people use to travel, by having this traditional prop allows to set the scene of a fairytale, so it reinforces some old events. Then the camera fades to shows and over the shoulder shot of a man dressed in grey coat, spying behind the door, as the fades blur out the background and focuses on the man, this allows the audience to following with the man, as they will be following along with him.
 Then we hear a clock ticking with a women humming, as the camera cuts to a closer up of the man turning around and the lighting from the corner, shining really bright. By having this it allows to audience to be set in the atmosphere of a fairytale, with the bright light signifying love and shows the unexpected love story that will occur which then cuts to room with a lot of light which lead him into it. Which then a long shot is of the room with a lot of lighting with a women playing a piano dressed in white. This signifies purity and innocence. as this introduces both the protagonist which will be in the film. This shows the convention of a romance film as both male and female protagonist will meet unexpectledy, which will intrigue the audience to watch on further on with the film. Both looking shocked with close up there dialogue begins with talking about what the male protagonist is doing, along with the shot reverse shot establishing there first meet, as the female protagonist automatically manipulated the male protagonist with her kindness, suggesting the male protagonist love at first sight made him change his plans.
 Then the next scene shows the introduction of the director of the film. Akiva Goldsman, who is an American film director, writer and producer. Having a well known successful director, allows the audience to be familiar with a well known director who had won an award the best adapted screenplay for the film A beautiful mind (2001). This allows to show a more experienced and successful director who will help promote the film further due to his success of other films and can attracted fans from his previous films as well.
Then the camera fades to show a group of men dressed in suits running towards gate suggesting it shows there status as being upper class with there accent being British shows the stereotypes for them they are seen as more educated and wealthy, and by having this they have a lot of power and this is shown through the composition of which it shows a gate with a group of men standing behind it with another man standing in the center, suggesting he is leader in which he controls a lot of people, at the same time the male and female protagonist talk as the voiceover and part of the meet up about what the male protagonist does for a living. This cuts back to show the male and female protagonist talking, as the male protagonist seems very shy but laid back, as he doesn't seem like he afraid of anyone, which shows a direct link to both situations of the male protagonists. This allow the audience to get to know the male protagonist, as this will hint them of what he is like showing his personality, which the audience can relate back to.
Then a close up is shown of an old poster, which shows that the male protagonist is someone that everyone is looking for, Then the man in the black suit starts talking and talks about what he wants from the male protagonist, which shows his mission on finding him. The words "wanted" and "Peter Lakes" are in bold capital letters in bold writing making it the main focus for the audience as they are looking for this specific person. The brown paper suggests that its been a long time since this person has been missing making the paper look old. As the man is talking he talks about his intention on what he wants to do. This suggests that his enemies are shown clearly to presents what problems will occur and the reason behind it, teasing the audience about the storyline. Then the camera fades to show a shot reverse shot of another moment between the male and female protagonist talking, as the female protagonist asks about whats the best thing he has stolen, and replies with that he hasn't stolen it yet, suggesting the build of  slow romantic connection between them, as he starts to gain feelings for her, then we cut to close up of the women smiling suggesting that purity and innocence of her clothing and her expression making her seem vulnerable but yet calming.
 The camera fades alot from each scene, and this allows the audience to get a fairy tale theme and atmosphere making it seem magical with the non diegetic sound of the women humming  as it starts to reveal relationship between the male and female protagonist. The trailer then gives small statements which gives information about there relationship and talks about there near future. This gives major hints to the audience as they will be more intrigued in to finding out what happens next. The next two scenes show two protagonist together and the male protagonist expressing his feeling towards the women, and starts to show them get into a relationship and getting intimate, this shows slow hints of there relationship in the trailer, as this conforms to the convention of a romance film trailer, as it will tease the audience in certain parts of the film, giving them an insight into the film. The trailer then reveals one of the problems in which the male protagonist will face as it will be losing his lover, as he is hopeless, as he doesn't know what to do, which then soon to show his weakness.
Then the next scene hows another statement "between light and dark", then fades into the man in the suit who comes and finds the male protagonist. The long shot of both of them on horses, with one of them on a white horse and another on the black horse suggests the emotions reflected towards each other as the black horse suggest hate and anger unlike the white horse show fearless suggesting that the male protagonist isn't afraid of anyone, as the man talks about how he can crush miracles, suggesting his wealth and power can make him uncontrollable, suggesting a threat towards the male protagonist as this threat may affect him badly. Then a voiceover starts as it explains there relationship is strong and warming and is unbreakable, complemented more scenes of them being together, showing a more intimate relationship. The medium shot of there intimate moment with the dark, saturated lighting, showing there closeness, which shows the strength of the relationship. Then an extreme close up shows the man in suit throwing the male protagonist off a bridge, which allows the audience to get an insight of what events happen, teasing them further, then fades into black suggesting a time change.


Then shown another statement suggesting unexpectedly things happen, the fades to show a long shot of graveyard being transformed into a busy city, with the male protagonist walking, the transformation suggests a modern perspective on this story line, where it shows more realistic expectations, as the he has lost his memory due to his fall, withe music becoming more fast pace showing the slow change beginning, suggesting a new chapter that may begin.  The lighting in the background suggests that new light and new beginning for the male protagonist, allowing the audience to follow along with him on his journey. Then we fade to a birds eye view of the modern city, with the change of non-diegetic music with now having a piano playing, signifying calming and relaxed atmosphere, as it starts to show the audience a different perspective of this story.
 Then fades to show a close up of a man flicking a coin into the sky as the camera tracks it as it shows luck can happen and starts to predict as the male protagonist bumps into a little girl and introduces herself. This starts to show modern perspective as he has lost his memory, as he doesn't remember his name, so he feel like he is still stuck in the past, but find it differcult to remember anything. A mid shot has been shown of the male protagonist represented as dull and with no emotions, the setting reflects this has it shows a reflected his mood and him feeling really lonely. The audience would feel sorry for him as he has gone through a lot and will side with him as they have been following him all through out the trailer. Then we cut to a women who comes running after in shock, however seems like she knows him bit doesn't seem express it now. Then cuts to shows when the film is going to be released. Releasing it on valentines times day will suit genre of the film being romance and would be suitable for couples as well to watch as well.
Then we cut to a long shot back to the cities where the male protagonist talks about his past and how he can't remember anything. Then we get a two shot of where the women helps the protagonist gain his memory back by finding old photos and clips which then start to trigger his memory by remembering her name. Then the music reflects the emotions the male protagonist is going through so the audience can relate to him, with his eyes watering, as he shocked to see it. Then we cut to a more upbeat music where the camera shows a close up of him drawing a picture of her, Which he can remember well, with the other women shocked to see something from the past coming back into modern life. Then the male protagonist asks questions directly at the audience, and the women replies instead, knowing that this is something that has never happened before, making it seem very extraordinary, which shows a convention of a fantasy film as unnatural events occurs that may not happen in real life, putting this in modern perspective allows to show from a different view point of how this fairy tale would be like.


Then the camera fades to introduces the cast, so the titles shows the protagonists who are still going to be the most important in the film, and allows the audience to be familiar with the cast, as they may have seen them from other films. Then the camera then shows flashbacks to the two min protagonist intimate relationship, as this would remind the audience of there relationship. Then we are shown a scene where the man in the black suit is shown and the him being the voiceover, makes him seem even more shocked as he sees him alive, with anger he feels defeated by it, showing a flashback to both the past and the present showing his change, as he has not changed in terms of wealth, but makes him seem defeated as he fails to get rid of him. Then the camera fades to show the title of film, as this is an important element that makes up the film trailer, as this notifies the audience on what its called. The style of the writing, used is in capital letters enlarge at the center of the frame, making it the center of attention. The gold give it an elegant look, with traditional fairytale outline with the shine, symbolising an magical fairytale adaptation.  
Then the final shot shows a birds eye view of snow scene where the female and male protagonist are riding on the horse, and the female protagonist says "nothing happens that isn't suppose to" suggests that every event has a purpose to there relationship, and has a reasoning behind it. This gives a small statement to the audience as they may be able to relate to this as a piece of advise. Then lastly the audience are shown the production titles, shows who made the film giving credits to them and the websites, with other promotional methods used such as Facebook and Twitter and a website. Having social media will expand the audience as this will create a bigger fan base, and make the film more popular. Its important to have these in a trailer as it helps to give the audience more information about the film, which will tease the audience giving them more hints on what happens in the film. Then lastly we have the release date of the film, as this will notify the audience on when they can watch the film. Its important to have the date as it makes it memorable for them and will keep them notified.
