The trailer begins with the showing the production titles for the film. Momentum pictures is an independent distributing company in the UK and Ireland. Along with the hammer, the British film production company based in London. Having both the production and distributing company allows the audience to know who created and promoted the film, and show acknowledgement for them.
The genre of this trailer is a horror and some generic expectation would include of an abandoned setting, usually have a dark, mysterious lighting, usually the protagonist would look for clues on what this ghost is like and will do research into it. Another element would be that there would be scenes where the ghost is causing problem, by scaring other or putting them in danger. The audience which this film is intended for is for is both men and women aged between 16-25 as this age range would usually want to watch film like this just for a scare.
Then we are shown a long shot of a train traveling, with the non diegetic sound of a harp playing suggesting a hidden mysterious, which will the audience will soon find out, with the long shot of the train traveling suggests that it will take along the audience through this mysterious, as has remained in the past but no one ever spoken about it. Then the camera fades to show a mid shot of the male protagonist staring at something suggesting he may have something hidden about him, which may have made him relocate, as a man says "your from London" suggesting that he doesn't seem happy about moving, which leaves an enigma codes for the audience as they would have to watch to watch the film to find out the reason, as the trailer just gives a small preview. As the old man starts talking about selling Leah Marsh's house, we the cut to long shot of an abandoned house, which has been used for years. This shows a convention of a horror film, as the abandoned house sets the scene for where the film is going to take place, with the fog around it shows, shows its a haunted place, where it holds a lot of hidden secrets, which will be found out throughout the film. A shot reverse shot has been used to establish the conversation between the old man and the male protagonist, as they discuss about the house, allowing the audience to get an insight about the house, and past which has remained with for years.
Then we cut to an over the shoulder shot of the old man wearing a suit and holding a dog, suggests he is more upper class, and shows his experience with the area as he says in confidence saying that it will be difficult to sell the house to someone close by, as it past a scared everyone, making them be put off from buying the house. this suggests that he may struggle from finding a buyer as the house hold as it background which everyone knows about. Then cuts to show a desserted road where they are traveling to go and see the house, the lighting is very gloomy suggesting that this hidden past, has not been looked into for years, and allows the audience to get to know more about the place as it been located somewhere far, where it doesn't bother anyone. Then we cut to a close up of cross where it been place in the middle of this nowhere, and the cross shows significance as it will be something the audience should remember as it will help reveal parts of the film.
As the voice over shows the old man talking about how the house should be brought soon, as people can move on, suggesting that it has been a long time since someone has thought about buying and will allow things to go back to normal, so clearing people's minds about the hidden past which is attached to the house. Then we are shown a long shot of the old man and the male protagonist traveling with a carriage with a horse taking them there, suggests it shows the time period of which this film has been set in, as it has been set in an old fashioned setting, reflecting people's view as they use to believe about ghosts.
Then we cut to a long shot of the male protagonist entering into the front of the house, the house is covered with fog and mist suggesting the time period which this house has been abandoned for years. This allows the audience to feel involved in the trailer as they will follow the male protagonist as he goes through to find out more about the house. The non diegetic sound of the harp playing suggests that it create suspension of danger as the male protagonist takes this step to try and sell the house, but want to investigate its past first, to find out more about the house. Then the harps stops as a high angle is shown of male protagonist entering into the house, suggesting that he is not that aware of what is going to happen to him, and the high angle show that he will be the ghost next target, as he enters into the house it shows that they have a lot of power over him as he took that step that come in. Then cuts to show a point of view shot from the male protagonist view to show his impression of the house, as it looks old fashioned and looks rusty as has not been used in years, alongside a low pitch violin is playing at the same time suggesting that it shows the closeness of a ghost, that may haunt him afterwards, which teases the audience further making them eager to watch the film. Then the male protagonist is exploring the house, as he want to know more about it then he spins lampshade and then cuts to a closeup of him looking at it closely and suddenly a piano note is played which is very low and deep suggesting that there is something lurking in this house.
Then we cut to a women serving a drink, who is shaking at the same time, suggests that she is scared about that something bad will happen, this, then cut to show a two shot of the male protagonist and introduces a love interest, who worries about him as advises him not to go back to the house for his own safety. Then next scenes show him to continue with his investigation about the house, when he hears a noise, the cut to a medium shot of him looking around as a women behind him standing, the camera blurs out the background and focuses on them both as it show that this women is shadowing this man, and has encounter this, then the man turn around suddenly to see nothing, then the camera cuts to black suggesting that it creates suspense for the audience as the women has seen him around and may not like, which starts to create tension on what she may do next. The fats pace editing create more suspense as it shows this women's capabilities, as there are events which occur such as a fire, where its put people in danger, suggesting that she is a dangerous women to deal with. Then cuts back to an over the shoulder shot where he says "I can't leave yet" suggesting that he is determined to find out the background of this house, with the background blurred out suggests that he is on his own with this mysterious about the house as everyone else is scared of getting hurt or haunted.
Then the camera cuts to show a statement about the film, revealing to the audience more about the story, and it scares them more to find out that that it going to be one of the most scariest film, and the trailer guarantees this by the statement as it something the audience may have not seen yet. Having this in a trailer allows the audience to get some information about the film, giving them an idea of what to expect. Then the camera shows a three shot of these three girls dressed in white walking towards the camera, this suggests that they have been haunted by the women and now under her control. The white suggests purity and innocence as it shows the kid have been used at part of her way of seeking revenge at the male protagonist. This shows a convention of a horror film trailer as the children will be used as way of haunting the protagonist, as they don't know what is going on, so the ghost uses them as part of there plan. Then the camera fades to the male protagonist having a flashback to some other men telling him to leave when they said before it too late, suggesting that this was threat but he didn't take it, and just makes him remember suggesting that he may regret not listening to them in the first place. Then a storm takes place as the male protagonist continues to research into the house, but come across different thing which starts scaring him. The storm suggests that something bad will take place and leaves the audience thinking about what this women do next, so leaving enigma codes will intrigue them to go and watch the film.
Then the camera cuts to the protagonist feeling scared and runs inside the house, to seek protection from what is going on outside, then we cut to a point of view shot of the cross outside, along with the non-diegetic sound of a girl screaming for help, suggesting that this cross has links with the house, resulting in a past family member who use to live there, which may suggests that from that death shows his women intention of seeking revenge on other for the loss of her family. Then a voice over of the lady speaking to him earlier, talking about his son, and the shows him giving him a hug, suggests it shows a more caring side to him, by having someone he know close to him. This gives more information about him and his background about his family. Then cuts to a close up of her saying "go home to him" suggesting that she may have been controlled by the women, as she looks like she has no power over herself, which shows it message from the women saying that he should leave. Then we cut a long shot of him revealing another message saying "you could have saved him" printed in red. The red suggests that the boy she refers to is his son, who may have been killed, connoting death because he didn't listen about leaving, showing what consequence that has caused him to lose someone close to him, and with that he stands back in shock, making him scared of what may happen next.
Then the camera fades to introduce the male protagonist, with the dark horn playing at the same time suggesting that he has just put himself in danger, with the voice over saying that he should not be chasing after shadows suggesting that there is no point of getting to the bottom of it as something dramatic will happen to him, as he is now being tortured by the women. Having the cast's name in the trailer allows the audience to know the cast are, as they may recognize them from other films. Then we cut to show a point of view shot of an old photo which the male protagonist has found, which shows some background about the family who use to live there, suggesting that they were a ordinary family to begin with but something dramatic may have happened resulting them to split up. Also the point of view shot allows the audience to be involved making them feel apart in the scene so the letters in the background can give evidence about who use to live there and what caused there separation. Then the trailer continues as the women as the ghost and the male protagonist go head to head as he finds more clues about the family, along with the women trying to make it more difficult for him, as she tries to hurt him.
Then the trailer becomes more fast paced, with the editing as it cuts to show different events where the male protagonist is finding new things, with the non-diegetic sound of the drone building suspense on what this women can do, scaring the audience further as it creates tension on what will happen next, with the fast pace editing allows to show small preview of the film teasing the audience on what to expect in the film. This adheres to the expectation of a trailer as it will hint parts of the film to the audience, making them eager to find out more about what happens. Then we cut to a black screen saying fear, in capital letters, as it shares some of the male protagonist emotions throughout the film, allowing the audience to get an insight of what the protagonist is feeling like so the audience can relate to him as they have been following him around through the trailer, so it make them seem apart of the trailer. Then we cut to a long shot of the male protagonist standing in some fog suggesting that his efforts won't do anything as the women has alot of power and control in stopping him, then a girl screams "Go!"suggesting this message that the women doesn't want him here, and through this shows that if he doesn't then she will put his life in danger. As a medium shot of him is shown holding and axe and a candle, suggests that he won't give up on finding out, and is determined to stop what is going on in this house.
Then the camera fades to show the title of the film, as this is an important element to a trailer as this tells them what the film is called, making it memorable for them. The word "women" has been enlarged and is glowing with a white light suggesting that it will evolve around a women which the trailer has shown in small hints, so it would intrigue the audience to go and watch the film. with the background with a white smokey background with black scene, suggests that she had a hidden secret that will be revealed in the film. The text have a white lighting shining suggests that she hold a lot of power, suggesting she can control a lot of things in order to seek revenge on them. Then cuts to an over the shoulder shot of the male protagonist placing his hands on glass window, then suddenly a women starts screaming on the reflection, suggesting she is trying to get rid of him in order to find her peace. Then cuts out to show the release date of the film, which has been enlarged and is in the centre of the screen, making it the main focus when watching the trailer, so it will be memorable to them when the actual film comes out. Its an element of a trailer which has to be shown to notify the audience on when they can see the film, along with the website below, in more smaller font, suggesting that it allows the audience to find out more about the film through website, keeping them updated about the film, it can also give them more trailers, and poster and many more teasing them about the film, so they can go and watch it.
